PBATs
Overview
The Institute for Health Professions at Cambria Heights (IHPCH) is a proud member of the New York Performance Standards Consortium (Consortium). The foundation of the Consortium assessment system, the Performance Based Assessment Task (PBAT) is designed to provide the opportunity for student voice and choice. What this means for the students at IHPCH is that instead of taking a test based on multiple choices, document based questions and long form essays students create their own research based investigations into a topic that interests them. This culminates in a written research paper backed by background research, their own data collection and analysis and then presented to a panel of educators and outside evaluators.
Graduation Requirements
As a member of the Consortium, The Institute for Health Professions at Cambria Heights currently has waivers for most NYS Regents exams. Due to this, students enrolled at IHPCH will only need to complete the following state assessments to graduate:
- English Regents Exam (10th Grade)
- Mathematics PBAT (11th Grade)
- Science PBAT (11th Grade)
- English PBAT (12th Grade)
- History PBAT (12th Grade)
PBAT Offerings
The current courses have graduation level PBATs within their curriculum:
- Algebra 2 / Trigonometry (Mathematics)
- Green Science Research (Life Science)
- Physics (Physical Science)
- English PBAT (English)
- Government and Economics PBAT (History)
